Blue Cross Blue Shield of MI Gives $650K To 14 Local Food Policy Councils and Non-Profits
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan made a big contribution this week.
They presented a grand total of $650,000 to 14 local food policy councils and nonprofits.
It’ll be used among the organizations to improve health equity through Michigan’s local food systems.
Among those awarded was Groundwork in Traverse City. They received $75,000.
“For us, we have always been so glad and proud to be part of a community that supports getting healthy food to food pantries and to have an organization like Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation invest in our work and believe in our work,” said Groundworks Food Equity Specialist Christina Barkel. “It just means everything to know that this program can continue and that it can expand and grow.”
Groundwork also says they’re determined to maintain a strong local farming community in the Grand Traverse area.
