A 38-year-old Indian River man has been charged with four counts of criminal sexual conduct and one count of home invasion.

Michigan State Police were called to a Cheboygan County residence on July 17, 2021 for a report of an alleged sexual assault and home invasion. According to police, a female victim said she was sexually assaulted in her home while she was sleeping in the early morning hours. She awoke while the man was assaulting her and managed to get away. The victim knew the male suspect who had left the residence.

An investigation led to an arrest warrant being issued in September for Russell Allen Higdon of Indian River. The MSP Seventh District Fugitive Team was asked to assist in locating Higdon since it was believed he had left the area. Hidgon turned himself in at the Cheboygan County Jail on Tuesday.

Higdon was arraigned in a Cheboygan County court Wednesday on two counts criminal sexual conduct first degree, two counts criminal sexual conduct third degree, and one count home invasion. He is currently being held without bond in the Cheboygan County Jail.

Higdon’s next court appearance is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 10.
