Two People Killed In Roscommon County Car Crash

A 25-year-old woman and her 4-year-old daughter were killed in a car crash in Roscommon County Friday, according to the Roscommon County Sheriff’s Office.

On Friday around 7:18 a.m., deputies were dispatched to a rollover accident on Old 76 near Bambi Lake Camp in Higgins Township.

They say the crash was reported by a passerby as a car in a ditch with no one around.

Deputies say when they arrived on scene, the road was covered in black ice, and they found the car submerged upside down in a water filled ditch.

They say much of the car was submerged, with a portion of the flipped car protruding from the water. Ice was formed all the way around the car, which led deputies to believe the crash happened overnight.

According to deputies, the 2002 GMC Envoy was travelling South on Old 76, lost control and left the roadway, striking multiple small trees and rolling into the water filled ditch.

After the car was rolled back over by wrecker service, deputies found Maria Castillo, 25, of Clare, and her 4-year-old daughter, who was seated in a car seat behind Castillo. Both were found deceased.

Deputies say the car was registered to Castillo.

Currently, deputies say speed appears to be a factor in the accident due to road conditions.

The incident remains under investigation.
