West Branch State Police Post Re-Opens In Brand New Facility

The West Branch State Police Post officially re-opened Wednesday morning in their brand new, state-of-the-art facility just east of town.

The Post is much larger and advanced than the previous post, and is more suited for a larger state police force moving forward.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer was on hand for the ribbon cutting.

The Director of the State Police says upgrades like this are needed if they want to be as effective as they need to be as a police force.

“The WPA post were built in the late 30s and something like that back in that time period for five people and now we have 40 plus, just was not set up for today’s standards so this was just an opportunity to upgrade and to make sure that we have a really good place for the troopers and the members that the department can be proud of,” said MSP Director Joe Gaspe.

The State plans to replace all older posts. Many were decommissioned in the past decade as posts consolidated.
