Five-Year-Old in Hospital After Shooting

A five-year-old boy was shot by his 13-year-old brother on Monday Oct. 25, 2021.

At around 4:30 p.m., deputies from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, along with Officers from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, responded to a home on Oakwood Lane in Elk Township after a report that a boy had been shot with a handgun.

When authorities arrived, they reportedly found a five-year-old who had been shot with a .22 revolver by a 13-year-old sibling. The boy was treated on scene and transported to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital by AeroMed. He is listed as being in stable condition.

Several unsecured firearms have been recovered from the home.

The incident remains under investigation, but deputies are calling this an accidental shooting.
