Traverse City Man Dies Following Grand Traverse County Crash

A 66-year-old Traverse City man died following a three car crash in Grand Traverse County Friday night.

The Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office says around 7:45 p.m. Friday, deputies, along with the Metro Fire Department, responded to a three car crash at the intersection of Lafranier Road and Hammond Road in Garfield Township.

Deputies say a car driven by an 85-year-old Traverse City man was traveling on Lafranier Road, and was at the intersection waiting to turn onto Hammond Road. Another car, which was driven by a 66-year-old Traverse City man was waiting behind the 85-year-old.

A third car, driven by a 26-year-old Traverse City man, was traveling Southbound on Lafranier Road when it collided with the 66-year-old man’s car. The 66-year-old man’s car then hit the car driven by the 85-year-old.

Deputies say 66-year-old Michael Trailer was pronounced dead at the scene. Both the 26-year-old and the 85-year-old sustained minor injuries.

The 26-year-old was arrested and lodged in the Grand Traverse County Jail for operating while impaired causing death and reckless driving causing death.

The crash remains under investigation.
