The Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office says a 33-year-old Traverse City man has been arrested on multiple warrants.
Deputies say on the morning of Oct. 18, the Sheriff’s Office responded to a one car crash on East Mill Road near Fouch Road in Blair Township.
Once on the scene, deputies determined that a Ford Escape involved in the crash was reported stolen to the Michigan State Police in Cadillac.
Deputies say a witness reported seeing the car driving erratically and crashed into a tree. The witness said a man, Joseph McManus, was observed leaving the scene with liquor bottles.
The witness also spoke with a passerby that said McManus had just shot at their house with a firearm. Deputies say the witness observed McManus also fled the scene with a handgun.
Around 10:15 a.m., deputies say McManus was also reported hitting a pickup truck with a baseball bat at a home on Sawyer Road in Blair Township.
While on the scene, deputies learned that McManus also assaulted a family member earlier in the morning at a home on Wilson Road.
Deputies say around 8:30 a.m., McManus was firing a handgun into the woods. He was asked by his family to stop shooting the gun and to come inside. They say a fight broke out between McManus and his 31-year-old brother. The 31-year-old was struck in the head with the handgun by McManus.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the Prosecutor’s Office authorized a warrant on McManus for domestic violence – third offense, felony firearms and habitual offender – third offense.
On Oct. 21, detectives learned that McManus was at a home in Blair Township.
A search warrant was conducted by Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office Detectives, Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division, a Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office K-9 and members from the Northern Michigan Mutual Aid Task Force Emergency Response Team.
Deputies say McManus was arrested for domestic violence – third offense, felony firearms and habitual offender – third offense.
