What’s Happening in Northern Michigan: Falls Colors in Northern Michigan

Fall is in full swing and in this week’s What’s Happening in Northern Michigan, Courtney Sheffer shows us all the fun activities you can enjoy with your family during October.

Falls Colors in Northern Michigan Whnm3

It’s the perfect time of year to check out the annual display of fall colors, and Northern Michigan has an abundance of great locations with picturesque views. You can enjoy the fall colors by canoe with the Pine River Paddlesports Center in Wellston, take a scenic chairlift ride at Shanty Creek Resort in Bellaire, or explore the colors along the golf course at Crystal Mountain in Thompsonville. You’ll find plenty of fall color self-driving tours throughout the area as well, to let you plan your own afternoon exploring the colors of the season.

Whnm 2Traverse Symphony Orchestra

The Traverse Symphony Orchestra is debuting a new concept this month, with the Traverse Symphony Jazz Orchestra. The live performance will be celebrating jazz music ranging from the heyday of Las Vegas, to the Hollywood Studios, to Motown Soul, to folk and funk, with a little light classical thrown in, too. You can catch their performance on October 23rd or 24th at the City Opera House in Traverse City.

Halloween in Harbor Springs Whnm 1

It’s the spookiest time of year, and if you visit Harbor Springs, you’ll find that skeletons have arisen all around town. You’ll run into over 40 life-size skeletons having fun around Harbor Springs, and you can check out the SkeleTour interactive map on the Harbor Springs Chamber’s website to help you track down all of the skeletons lurking around town. The skeletons will be in Harbor Springs through the end of October.
