Michigan House Advances Bill To End ‘Tampon Tax’

On Thursday, the Michigan House passed a bipartisan bill to eliminate the “tampon tax” on feminine products.

Products like tampons currently carry a 6% sales tax because they are considered “luxury items.”

Bills to eliminate the tax have been introduced over the past five years and have been gaining support.

The House will now send their bill to the state Senate.

At least 20 states have ended the “tampon tax” or never had it in the first place, according to one organization that supports removing the tax.

Midwestern states like Illinois, Ohio and Minnesota do not have the tax.
