Former Sault Area Teacher Sentenced for Attempted Felonious Assault

Timothy StraderA former Sault Area High School and Career Center teacher has been sentenced on two counts of attempted felonious assault.

Timothy Strader was sentenced to 30 days in jail, 10 months of jail time held in abeyance and three years of probation, during which time he is not to have unsupervised contact with minors under the age of 18.

In September 2020, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Department received a complaint from a former Sault Area High School and Career Center student who indicated that she was sexually assaulted by a teacher while she attended school. She also stated that the teacher requested nude photographs of her.

Following an investigation, Strader was arrested on three counts of criminal sexual conduct fourth degree and solicitation of child sexually abusive material.

According to police, the Chippewa County Prosecutor’s Office worked with the victim to negotiate a plea that was aimed at preventing Strader with working with children in the future.
