Big Rapids to Host First Faith & Blue Weekend Starting Saturday

In order to bring people together, Big Rapids law enforcement agencies are hosting their first ever Faith & Blue weekend.

“National Faith & Blue Weekend is a weekend that is bringing faith communities, the faith community in Big Rapids together, with the police department just to show a unity,” said William Sell, Community Relations Officer for Big Rapids Department of Public Safety.

Faith & Blue weekend is a national event. Throughout the U.S., hundred of churches partner with law enforcement agencies to hold events and do things to better their area.

“We are a part of the community, and we’ve always been a part of the community and that’s important for the public to know… we’re there to help them,” said Mike Mohr, Sergeant for Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office. “Not just when they have crisis or problem. We’re there as embedded members of the community.”

During the event, Big Rapids will have a Sunday service, called “Honor the Badge,” as well as a “Stuff A Cop Car” food drive for Manna Food Pantry.

It will take place at Aldi, Meijer and Wal-Mart.

“Hopefully we can get one or two police cars full of can goods,” said Officer Sell.
