It’s peak time for sports shops, as bow hunting season is well underway.
Jack’s Sports Shop in Kalkaska says their store has seen an exceptional increase in business in 2020 and 2021, with sales increasing by 20% from previous years. The store, which did lose business after deer baiting was banned, attributes the return of business to people wanting to get outside after being cooped up for so long last year.
“The hunters are getting older for the most part and it’s harder to draw the compound but also there is some younger people getting into deer hunting where it’s difficult to pull 40-50 pounds, but they can pull a trigger on a crossbow so it’s got some younger ones into hunting as well,” said Jack’s Sports Shop owner Dan Doherty.
Archery season ends on Nov. 11, then opens again on Dec. 1 and runs through Jan. 1, 2022.
