Leaked Facebook Report Shows How Instagram Harms Teens

Facebook is under fire after a leaked report showed just how toxic their Instagram app could be for teens, especially girls.

Lawmakers in the Senate grilled a top Facebook executive over the research from the company.

The evidence showed about one third of teen girls said Instagram makes them feel even worse about their bodies than they already do.

6% of teens said their thoughts of suicide started on Instagram.

Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal says his office set up a fake Instagram account to see for themselves how damaging the content could be.

Blumenthal said it was flooded with recommended accounts “that promote self-injury and eating disorders.”

The whistleblower from Facebook who released the report is expected to testify sometime next week.

It could potentially expose more of what the company knew and what they did or didn’t do about it.
