MSP Investigating Explosive Wexford County Crash
Michigan State Police say two people have been taken to the hospital following a crash in Wexford County Thursday afternoon.
Troopers say around 3:18 p.m., a trooper and a motor carrier officer from the MSP Cadillac Post were dispatched to M-115 near South Mackinaw Trail for a two vehicle crash in Clam Lake Township.
They say their initial investigation indicates that a semi-truck driven by a 60-year-old man from Hersey was traveling Southeast on M-115.
A United States Postal Service truck driven by a 55-year-old McBain woman was also headed Southeast on M-115, and was traveling on the shoulder.
Troopers say it is believed the USPS truck turned left into the lane of travel in front of the semi-truck and was struck.
They say both vehicles caught fire, and the trooper and motor carrier officer began life saving efforts before being relieved by EMS personnel.
Troopers say the 60-year-old from Hersey was taken to a local hospital. The 55-year-old woman from McBain was also taken to a local hospital, and was later airlifted to a Traverse City hospital in serious condition.
Troopers say anyone who has questions about mail delivery or service needs to contact their local USPS Post Office.
The crash remains under investigation.
