Man Arrested After Leading Police On Chase

The Newaygo County Sheriff’s Office says a Newaygo man has been arrested after leading deputies on a chase Wednesday.

Deputies say they attempted to stop a burgundy BMW for multiple vehicle violations on East 36th Street near South Locust Avenue in Big Prairie Township.

They say the BMW failed to stop for the Sheriff’s Office, and during the pursuit, went North on South Elm Street from East 36th Street to East Baseline Road, and then into Mecosta County.

Deputies say members of the Central Michigan Enforcement Team (CMET) located the BMW on US-131 and followed the man as he returned to Newaygo County at East 36th Street and South Newcosta Avenue.

They say deputies tried to stop the driver on South Croton-Hardy Drive near East 48th Street, but the driver then went into Montcalm County and deputies lost sight of the car.

Deputies say while searching the area, the Sheriff’s Office found the car South of Amy School Road, South of Tamarack Road.

They say the BMW then went West on Gates Road and then into a private driveway.

Deputies say the 19-year-old Newaygo man was arrested without incident and lodged at Newaygo County Jail.
