Northwestern Michigan College Set to Kick Off First Esports Season

Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City is taking e-sports to the next level.

NMC beings varsity competition this fall in the National Junior College Athletic Association E-sports Conference and Michigan E-sports Conference.

The college initially anticipated kicking off the program last year before the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the start.

NMC is utilizing an empty building on campus for its e-sports lab.

“It really is about teamwork, strategizing and getting young adults together to facilitate more professional development,” said NMC’s e-sports coordinator Justin Guillard “A lot of people look at this and think ‘well it’s just video games’ but really it’s a lot more than that.”

NMC will be playing Rocket League against Northern Virginia Community College
