On Tuesday, Secretary of State Antony Blinken was grilled for more than three hours on Capitol Hill as he defended President Biden’s withdrawal from Afghanistan.

The majority of senators said they agreed with the decision to withdraw, but disagreed with the way Biden went about doing it.

Many of the questions focused on about 100 Americans and thousands of Afghan allies who haven’t made it out.

Blinken says the administration has worked hard to reach out to those people, making “55,000 phone calls and sending 33,000 emails” before the end of August.

Senate Foreign Relations Chairman Bob Menendez criticized the decision by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin not to testify on Tuesday. Menendez said he may issue a subpoena for his testimony.
