Taste the Local Difference: August Four Food Finds

It’s August and Taste the Local Difference’s Tricia Phelps is here with her ‘Four Food Finds.’

Xavier caught up with her at the Downtown Petoskey Farmer’s Market.

What’s in Season: Hot Peppers

It’s been a Hot Summer, and just like you might suppose, Hot Peppers thrive when it’s hot and humid. The same component that creates the spicy flavor can actually help promote weight loss andPeaches heart health. With peaches in season right now too, I’ve been making my go-to peach salsa with local jalapenos and heirloom tomatoes, that I pretty much put on anything this time of year.

Don’t Miss: Local Food Club Happy Hour

Happening all across the state on September 9th! Join from Farm Club in Traverse City, Blom Meadworks in Ann Arbor, Barrel & Beam in Marquette or River Saint Joe in Buchanan. We’ll have happy discounts available at these locations for club members and you can meet other people who love local food as much as you do! We’ll have membership cards so you can sign-up for the club right then and there. Learn more at localfoodclub.org

Add this to your Plate: Local Fish!

There is nothing quite as delicious as Michigan Fish this time of year. It’s light, flavorful and perfect from summer temperatures. We’ve added a section of our Find Food and Farms Database specifically for local fisheries. So you can find fresh caught fish from local favorites like Treaty Fish Co in Peshawbetown and Big Stone Bay Fishery in Mackinaw City.
