The Manistee County Sheriff’s Office responded to an incident at Munson Manistee Hospital Thursday.
Around 4:02 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the hospital following a report that a man was armed, had walked up to the emergency entrance and told hospital staff he intended to kill himself.
Munson Manistee Hospital, as well as surrounding local businesses, then went into lockdown.
Deputies, along with officers from the city of Manistee, were able to make contact with the man and convinced him to put down his firearm.
The Sheriff’s Office says the man was taken into protective custody and has been taken to the hospital for an evaluation.
The incident remains under investigation.
