Governor Gretchen Whitmer is making two stops in Traverse City on Thursday, focusing her attention on the automotive industry – and on small businesses as well.

The Governor attended the CAR conference and was the keynote speaker on Thursday. After, she met with business leaders in Traverse City at the Small Business Summit, held at the Grand Traverse Commons.

The Governor says Michigan is still focusing on small businesses with fewer than 10 employees, and she’s joining conversations across the state. She says small business of the backbone of the economy and the lifeblood of our communities.

“We want to make sure that small businesses are informing the work that we do to help them. We do our best when we work together and we learn our powerful lessons when we engage in candid conversations about how we can support small business in this communication.”

Governor Whitmer says the state’s investment strategy has to include helping employers, by assisting with childcare needs for workers. Governor Whitmer says a lack of childcare is a key factor in employees leaving a job.

In summarizing her visit, she says, “I’m excited about these conversations and they’re crucial to our mutual success.”
