Big Rapids Police Arrest Shooting Suspect
Big Rapids police arrested a Stanwood man for shooting someone and leading police on chase while driving intoxicated early Wednesday morning.
Big Rapids police were called to South State Street around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday for a gunshot victim. A vehicle was seen leaving the area as responding officers arrived on the scene. Additional officers attempted to complete a traffic stop on the vehicle.
The suspect fled from officers through Big Rapids and into Mecosta County before eventually stopping his vehicle and surrendering to officers.
Police say the suspect, a 22-year-old Stanwood man, was intoxicated.
The suspect was lodged at the Mecosta County Jail and is awaiting arraignment. The victim was transported to Grand Rapids for non-life threatening injuries.
