A Lake City sailor with 50 years of experience is offering sailing lessons, free of charge.

Richard Wells has been sailing for most of his life.

He is also an Eagle Scout and said he wanted to give lessons as a random act of kindness.

Wells offers lessons on Lake Missaukee on a daily basis. He meets his students, who are all ages, right downtown next to Hammer’s Pub & Grill in Lake City.

“This is a beautiful lake, beautiful part of the state, we should be out enjoying it,” said Wells. “The water is warm, the lake isn’t real deep. It’s a big lake, so there’s a lot of room to sail. I mean, you can go for a half-hour, fourth-five minutes in one direction, which is a lot of fun.”

Wells currently owns six sailboats that he uses for lessons.

For more information and to set up an appointment with him, you can call or text him at (313) 350-2706.
