“We deserve nice things, Houghton Lake, Northern Michigan, we work hard, we play hard, we deserve nice things,” said the general manager at the Fox Den Restaurant, Mark Vick.
Treat yourself to a one of a kind meal at the Fox Den Restaurant.
“Traditional American food with a unique twist, we try to take something that’s a simple item that’s a commonly known item like a portabella mushroom, and a Philly cheesesteak, how can we put that together,” said Mark.
He says if they’re going to do something, they’re going to do it right.
“We are not going to build a facility this size, we are not going to make the investment we did and cut any quarters,” he said.
The Fox Den Restaurant is a part of the Northern Center.
“The vision was an event center for weddings and receptions, then we added the basketball court, then we applied for our liquor license and food license for the catering for the weddings, we were like ‘hey now that we have those two things in place lets pursue the dining thing,’” he described.
They pursued dining, and perfected it, with meals like the pineapple shrimp kabob.
“We are just trying to be different, we are not trying to be better than anyone else,” he described. “Sweet chili sauce, let it finish that sweetness and hotness and pull out the flavor of the shrimp.”
Cranking up the heat a little bit for some foxy style Buffalo wings.
“I have been a big wing eater my whole life, and at different times in my life my nickname has been ‘Wings’ because I eat so many wings in a particular week,” Mark said.
Foxy style means the wings will hit the grill after a dunk in the fryer.
And you can choose from nine different flavors of sauce.
“Honey barbecue, to a garlic parm on the tamer side, we got a sweet chili and a house sauce, a coach’s sauce, which is a secret we are not going to give away today,” said Mark. “The sauce itself give a little bit of heat, a little bit of sweet, a little bit of kick.”
The big rings compliment the big wings.
Huge portions – in a huge building – served from a huge heart.
“We are just so happy to give back to a community that’s been so great to our family throughout the last generations,” said Mark.
