Search Efforts Will Resume On Sunday For The Missing Boater In Mason County

The Mason County Sheriff’s Office says the water search for the missing boater on Bass Lake in Mason County will resume at first light on Sunday, July 25th.

Deputies were called on Friday around 4:21 p.m., to an unoccupied boat that was reported to be motoring in circles in the center of Bass Lake.

Deputies found that John Decker, 62, of Lake Bluff, Illinois was last seen near his vacation home on the Bass Lake shoreline and has been missing since early Friday afternoon.

On Saturday, water and shoreline searches continued throughout the day and into the evening hours.

The Mason County Sheriff’s Office Drone Unit also conducted a search from the air.

Heavy weed beds, poor visibility and inclement weather complicated the search efforts.

Officials say a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter has also been requested.
