Those in the Charlevoix School district will have to pay a little more in taxes this year.
This is after the school’s business department made a mistake by not collecting the right amount of money this previous year.
In 2020 the school established a levy of their debt service millage, but later found out the money they requested from taxpayers would not be enough to cover it.
They then requested a loan from the school’s general fund in order to cover the debt service fund, but in order to do so, they needed to implement a one-year increase in the levy.
Superintendent Mike Ritter said they now have a review process in place so mistakes like this won’t happen again.
