Even though it rained much of Wednesday, it hasn’t stopped people from participating in Cherry Festival traditions.

People were out on Wednesday taking part in the Nation Cherry Festival Annual Cornhole Tournament.

The competition started and noon and lasted until 6 p.m.

This year, they had about 128 teams sign up to play.

One team says it was their first year in the tournament.

They say they had the chance to play against veteran players, and were welcomed right into the Cornhole Community.

Kenny Simmons was on that rookie team.

“It doesn’t really make it feel like a contest,” said Simmons. “So, obviously Cherry Festival is a good family event so everyone’s kind of got their families out here anyways. So it’s nice to just have the friends and enjoy.”

They also say to not let the camaraderie fool you, the game can get competitive quickly.

Organizers say they were impressed by the amount of new players that came to face the rain and play.
