DEVELOPING: Oscoda County Sheriff’s Office Searching For Possible Missing Man After Canoe Overturns

The Oscoda County Sheriff’s Office says they have found the body of a 40-year-old Mio man in the Mio Dam Pond on the Au Sable River.

They say the man’s canoe tipped over near the State Forest Campground Boat Launch.

The Sheriff says after the man’s canoe tipped, witnesses saw him trying to get back to the boat launch, go underwater and never come back up.

He says the call came in around 8:30 Friday night, and they found his body just before 10 p.m. in about six feet of water.

The incident remains under investigation.


The Oscoda County Sheriff’s Office is searching part of the Au Sable river for a possible missing man.

The Sheriff’s Office says they got a call Friday night about an overturned canoe.

They say one man was in the canoe.

Right now, crews are searching in a pond on the West side of the Mio Dam.

Crews are also talking to people nearby.
