National Writers Series Previews Summer 2021 Events, Authors & Books

Earlier this month, the National Writers Series (NWS) kicked off their summer event series!

There are still so many great authors and books to be highlighted throughout the rest of the summer.

‘The four’s Xavier Hershovitz caught up with the National Writers Series executive director Jillian Manning. Watch their interview above!

Here is a rundown of the NWS Summer Events:

Thursday June 24: Emily Henry

“Emily Henry, New York Times bestselling author of Beach Read, offers a sparkling new novel perfect for summertime in Traverse City. An instant #1 bestseller and named a Most Anticipated Book of 2021 by Newsweek, Oprah Magazine, Marie Claire, Parade, Good Housekeeping, and more, People We Meet on Vacation will leave you with the warm, hazy afterglow usually reserved for the best vacations.”

Thursday July 8: Dax-Devlon Ross

Letters to My White Male Friends isn’t just for men. Dax-Devlon Ross speaks directly to the millions of people who are suddenly awakening to the ways racism warps us all. Ross offers direction so that we can take just action in the workplace, community, family, and, most importantly, in ourselves, especially in the future when race is no longer in the spotlight. This event is presented in partnership with Northern Michigan E3.”

Thursday July 22: Megan Miranda

“From the New York Times bestselling author of The Last House Guest—a Reese Witherspoon Book Club selection—comes a new riveting suspense novel about a mysterious murder in an idyllic and close-knit neighborhood. Megan Miranda is joined by guest host Riley Sager, the author of five books including Final Girls, an international bestseller that’s been published in 25 languages.”

Thursday August 5: Susie Yang

“Named one of the Best Books of 2020 by USA Today and longlisted for the Center for Fiction’s First Novel Prize, Susie Yang’s New York Times bestselling novel, White Ivy, is filled with surprising twists and a nuanced exploration of class, race, and coming of age. NPR correspondent and NWS alum Aarti Shahani will join as guest host.

Thursday August 26: John U. Bacon

“From New York Times bestselling author John U. Bacon comes an uplifting leadership book about a coach who helped transform the nation’s worst high school hockey team into one of the best. Bacon’s strategy is straightforward: set high expectations, make them accountable to each other, and inspire them all to lead their team.”
