College athletes are celebrating a Supreme Court victory, but the debate over how they should be compensated is not over.
On Monday, the Supreme Court upheld a lower court ruling that the National Collegiate Athletic Association cannot limit education-related benefits.
That includes how schools reimburse players for things like computers, books and science equipment.
The ruling did not cover pay-to-play, but Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s concurring opinion suggests there could be a potential challenge.
He says it is highly questionable whether the NCAA and its member colleges can justify not paying student athletes a fair share of the revenues.
The NCAA says it’s working with Congress to determine a path forward for supporting name, image and likeness benefits for student athletes.
