Traverse City Man Arrested For Open Murder

The Grand Traverse Sheriff’s office responded to a property next to the Goodwill Inn shelter on Keystone Road in Garfield Township for a report of a stabbing.

Police arrived on scene at about 6 o’clock in the evening.

They found Thomas Johnson, a 53 year-old Traverse City man, who had just been stabbed.

He was rush to Munson Medical Center where he died from his injuries.

The sheriffs office arrested a 65 year-old man for open murder.

Police tell us the two got into an argument that lead to the stabbing.

Lt. Brian Giddis says, “They did have an altercation before the stabbing but it’s still being sorted out as to what that altercation was about and all of the details about that.”

The suspect is at the Grand Traverse County Jail where he is waiting to be charged.

The sheriffs office tells us this is still an open investigation.
