Traverse City Human Rights Commission Names Recipients Of Sara Hardy Humanitarian Award

The Traverse City Human Rights Commission has named their recipients for the Sara Hardy Humanitarian Award.

The first two winners are Bill and Michelle White, the founders of the non-profit 5 Loaves, 2 Fish in Leland.

Created last year amid the pandemic, the Whites have been cooking and delivering meals to those in the area experiencing food insecurity.

Also winning the award is Ryan Hannon, Outreach Coordinator for Goodwill Industries. Hannon is being recognized for his work doing street research for the homeless population.

In true humanitarian fashion, Hannon wants to use this award to inspire the community to join the effort.

“What I hope this to be is to create awareness for folks and realize that they can help, and there’s more we can do as a community and homelessness is an issue that can be solved, and together we can do it,” said Hannon.
