It’s the end of a taxing school year, and Old Mission Peninsula Elementary Schools is celebrating in a big way.

Staff, teachers, and the Parent-Teacher Organization held a carnival for the kids at the school in Grand Traverse County on Tuesday. It was complete with games, inflatable obstacle courses, and even an airplane flyover. Festivities were made possible by donations and fundraisers throughout the school year.

After being cooped up inside, and spending a lot of time in front of computer screens during the pandemic, the carnival gave students and teachers alike a chance to let loose and celebrate the beginning of summer. PTO President Rebecca Schubert says, “You have to really look at mental health and the importance of getting outside and being active. Our OMPS families have been so generous to make this happen and for the teachers. We just realize they’ve been through a lot this year and this is an important event for them too to enjoy the second to last day of school.”

Old Mission is also staring a “Gratitude Project”, which would help fund repairs and enhancements at the school playgrounds. It would also provide stipends to OMPS teachers for the 2021-2022 school year. For more on how you can help, .
