June is considered pride month….a time dedicated to celebrate LGBTQ+ culture and rights.

In Sault Ste Marie next Wednesday, June 16, a special event will take place at a local park.

The Diane Peppler resource center and the journey to healing program have teamed up to sponsor a “Pride Tie-Dye” celebration at Sherman Park.

It is open to anybody.  You can bring your own shirts and accessories or shirts and dye will be provided.  It starts at 3:30 p.m. Refreshments and pizza will also be served.

This is the first year for this kind of event.

“The community, as far as I have seen, has been really open about it,” said volunteer coordinator, Katie Barkley.  “The members of our staff and members of the community of the LGBTQ+ are really supportive of it and are really excited to come out.”

“Showing the LGBTQ+ that we support them and that we are here and accept them is really important,” Mariah Teeple expressed. She is the program advocate for ‘The Journey to Healing’ “I thought tie-dye would be a fun activity to do with the community.  So yea, tie-dye for Pride….it just made sense.”

The event will be held rain or shine. For more information, .
