First Motorcycle Rally in Mackinaw City to Benefit Veteran Charity

Mackinaw City is set to hold it’s first Motorcycle Rally at Conkling Heritage Park.

They’re setting up a beer tent, a bike show, and fireworks over Lake Huron among other activities.

“We’re going to have a poker ride,” said Stephanie MacLeod, coordinator of the event. “We’re going to have a parade across the mighty Mackinac Bridge. We already have 500 registered for that. That’s definitely going to be a sight to come out and see.”

For the poker ride on Friday, it’s $25 to register and a portion of those funds will be donated to the Brave Hearts Estate in Pellston.

Caretaker Paula Brown said they offer a place to stay for veterans.

“The veterans can come up here. They bring their families,” said Brown. “They can stay all weekend and we supply all their meals and everything else. Just another way for them to get together.”

“What an amazing organization to be raising money for so we hope everyone comes out, checks out what’s happening, and just enjoy the weekend and some beautiful weather,” said MacLeod.

Like other nonprofits, Brave Hearts saw a lack of funding during the pandemic.

“Took us down to pretty much zero because we rely on fundraising, grants, and donations,” said Brown. “When COVID hit we pretty much got nothing so were shut down as well as everybody else. This is going to be a huge boost to us.”

The two day event runs from Friday through Saturday.
