Fastly Says Website Shutdowns Caused By Software Update Bug

The major internet outage that caused several major websites to go down is being blamed on a software bug.

Fastly, the cloud service company used by those sites, says the outage was caused when a customer changed a setting.

In May, Fastly rolled out a software update that included a software issue. The bug was activated when the setting was changed.

Fastly says they’re working to figure out why the bug wasn’t detected before.

Some of the websites that went down Tuesday morning include the New York Times, Amazon and Twitch.

Fastly says the outage only lasted about 49 minutes.
