UPDATE 12:40 a.m. – Police are now reporting that the suspect is in custody. 9&10 News will have the latest information as it becomes available.

Police are now turning to the public for help in their search for a man wanted for sexual assault and a stabbing murder in Isabella County.

The call came in to 911 at 3:15 Sunday morning to a home on South Isabella Road, just about a half mile from the Michigan State Police post.

Once arriving on the scene they found a 13-year-old girl stabbed to death and another adult woman who was sexually assaulted.

State police now say they are looking for 40-year old Isaiah Gardenhire.Isabella Homicide Suspect 1

“We do have an armed individual that is in the area,” said Lieutenant Michelle Robinson, “We just encourage anyone that has seen him, or if she’s anything disrupted on their property, to call 911.”

Police describe Gardenhire as a black male, 6’1” and 180 pounds. He is believed to have stolen a dark colored 2014 Ford Fusion with the license plate of “CTBMIKE.”

Lieutenant Robinson says Gardenhire knew the victims and this was not a random attack, part of the reason why they do not think the public is in danger. They say he is stilled arms and possibly desperate at this point.

If you know where Gardenhire is or have any information, you’re asked to contact 911, the tip line at 877-616-4677 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-422-JAIL (5245), P3 mobile app or P3tips.com/488.
