Facebook Suspends Donald Trump’s Accounts for 2 Years

Facebook announced Friday that it will suspend former President Donald Trump’s accounts for two years, citing its findings that he contributed to the violence ahead of the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

“At the end of this period, we will look to experts to assess whether the risk to public safety has receded. We will evaluate external factors, including instances of violence, restrictions on peaceful assembly and other markers of civil unrest,” Nick Clegg, Facebook’s vice president of global affairs, said in a statement.

Facebook also plans to end its policy that automatically exempted politicians from particular moderation rules on its social media platform.
