The unofficial start to summer, almost feels like the official start to normalcy for Cherry Capital Airport.

“Over the past week and going into this weekend, we’ve seen an increase in passengers,” said Airport Director Kevin Kline.  “About 3% over the 2019 numbers.”

Which, compared to 2020, when we saw very little travel, is a huge improvement.

“It’s about 300%, so definitely trending in the right direction,” said Kline.

One of those passengers on Friday’s flights, Matt Grubish, came in from Virginia for a bachelor party this weekend.

He said the airports have been busy.

“I had a connection in DC and the flight from Norfolk to DC was completely full,” said Grubish. “The flight from DC up to here was about 90% full, so airports were pretty busy.”

And his piece of advice for travelers?

“Bring a couple masks and be prepared to just be patient,” said Grubish. “People are just getting used to getting back into normal from Covid times.”
