Secretary of State Blinken Travels to Egypt for Gaza Ceasefire Talks
Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Egypt early Wednesday morning and will travel to Jordan later in the day.
The purpose of the tour is to solidify a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas after more than 10 days of conflict.
On Tuesday, Blinken met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Netanuahu says if Hamas breaks the ceasefire, Israel’s response will be powerful.
Blinken also met with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and pledged aid for rebuilding Gaza.
None of the $40 million in aid will be allowed to go to Hamas.
The U.S. plans to reopen its consulate in Jerusalem for Palestinians.
It was closed when former President Trump moved the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
