A bill to create a 10-member commission to investigate the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol riot is now headed to the Senate.
The bill was a bipartisan effort and passed in the House on Wednesday.
35 Republicans joined Democrats in favor of the commission.
Through negotiations, both sides came to an agreement on equal power over the investigation into the riot at the Capitol.
Some Republicans say the bill needs to go beyond the Jan. 6 riot and investigate other political violence, including last summer’s racial justice protests.
The bill will need 10 GOP votes in addition to all 50 Democratic votes in the Senate to pass.
