An incredible story of climbing major heights all to rescue a kitten will melt your heart and reignite your faith in humanity.  The kitten rescue happened in Isabella County’s Blanchard Monday afternoon.

Jessica Henry from McBride in Montcalm County contacted the 9&10 Newsroom Monday morning about a kitten that had been trapped up in a tree for the last several days. Jessica had contacted various animal rescues, the fire department, and other organizations without any luck. Finally, she was able to reach out to Fate’s Tree Service in Barryton in Mecosta County. The owner, Billy Fate agreed to help and brought his team out to help climb the tree and rescue the sweet, male kitten.
Fate said he has been contacted to rescue kittens and cats from various trees before and it’s always a dangerous operation for both himself and the animal.  Yet, he came out to help and within a half-hour of arriving on the scene, successfully scaled the 60-foot tree behind the gas station in Blanchard.
“The kitty was alive. We got him down with a kennel and rope, lowered him to the ground in it. He was at the top of the tree stuck in the crotch.  I did my best. The cat is safe. It was a tough climb in a giant maple tree,” says Billy Fate.
The kitten is said to be in good spirits, is eating and drinking but is weak, and being taken to an area animal clinic for medical treatment.  Due to the cost of vet bills, a GoFundMe account has been set up for the kitten, being named, Bill Fate the Wonder Cat in honor of the man who rescued him.  The kitten is also currently being fostered but is looking for a forever home as an indoor cat.
