U.N. Addresses Israel-Palestine Tensions as Death Toll Rises

The United Nations Security Council is expected to meet today about the escalating tension between Israel and Hamas, a Palestinian militant group.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he will step up his attacks as that tension increases. He’s also calling up re-enforcements.

Yesterday Israel launched a second airstrike on Hamas, flattening a high-rise building used by the group on the Gaza strip.

In response, Hamas fired 130 rockets at Israel.

Officials says Gaza’s death toll is now at 43, and three women in Israel have been killed.

On Tuesday, the Biden administration said Israel has the right to defend itself.

The current clashes began with confrontations at Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque, which is a sacred site to both Jews and Muslims.
