California Governor Gavin Newsom has expanded a drought emergency to cover a large part of the state.
His declaration now covers 41 out of 58 counties.
California’s northern and central areas are experiencing water supply shortages during one of the warmest, driest springs on record.
The state may be hit with another severe wildfire season this year.
Newsom is also seeking more than $6 billion in water spending over several years.
