MDHHS Announces Fully Vaccinated Care Facility Staff Do Not Need to Be Regularly Tested

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services announced that staff members in long term care facilities that are fully vaccinated do not need to be routinely tested.

Vaccine0 1The change was made because of the increase in these staff workers getting vaccinated.

Bay Bluffs Nursing Facility in Harbor Springs says 55% of their staff and 98% of their residents have been vaccinated.

The facility says they’re optimistic this change is a step in the right direction, but they are cautious to immediately stop testing their staff members.

“We will make sure that we’re protecting our residents the best way we possibly can,” said Lisa Ashley, Bay Bluffs Nursing Facility Administrator. “Likely we’ll continue testing everybody, it’s just a matter of what that frequency will look like down the road, even our vaccinated staff.”

Testing will still be required for new or returning unvaccinated residents and staff, as well as those who are showing symptoms.
