Frankfort-Elberta Area Schools Install AED Kit At Lockhart Field

Frankfort-Elberta Area Schools have finished installing a new AED kit at Lockhart Field.

The AED kit will be ready and accessible during football, baseball and softball games should the need ever arise. The school received the kit after applying for a grant from the Wes Leonard Heart Foundation.

Wes Leonard was a student athlete that collapsed and died after scoring a game winning basketball shot.

In 2019, Frankfort saw a student suffer a seizure while practicing cheerleading on the sidelines of a football game.

Frankfort’s Athletic Director hopes this device will keep them prepared for whatever emergency might occur in the future.

“It’s just nice to have it handy and have it available because if you do have it, it’s just one more tool you have that could potentially save a life,” said Dave Jackson, Athletic Director at Frankfort High School. “It’s very important we’ve got them in our schools and have them available where if there’s gonna be a crowd of people, because you just never know what your needs are going to be.”

Jackson says all of their coaches and athletic trainers are trained on how to operate AED devices.
