The Traverse Bay Children’s Advocacy Center held a community forum about sex trafficking on Thursday evening.

Their aim is to help educate the community on how to notice when someone may be struggling.

Carly Bentley, a Forensic Interview Specialist for Homeland Security, spoke at the forum and said human trafficking can be present in areas with high tourist volumes, like many areas in Northern Michigan.

The Human Trafficking Hotline says in 2019 Michigan alone had over 350 human trafficking cases.

“The Traverse City Area is full of rural towns. So, it’s definitely important to think of your little town that you live in as well as big cities,” Bentley said. “It’s happening right in plain sight and it’s happening really right under our noses.”
