Biden Raises Immigration Cap as Number of Unaccompanied Children Drops
On Monday, President Biden announced a plan to raise the county’s immigration cap from 15,000 to more than 62,000.
It comes as border patrol appears to be processing immigrants more quickly.
The number of unaccompanied children held by border patrol has dropped about 88% since late March, but there’s still work to be done.
Vice President Kamala Harris plans to meet virtually with Mexico’s president to ask for help curbing the flow of immigrants.
The New York Times reports that Senator Chuck Schumer may try to attach a bill legalizing millions of undocumented immigrants to the president’s infrastructure bill.
That bill could be passed by a simple majority.
