Israel’s Government Investigates Cause of Stampede at Religious Festival

Israel’s government oversight agency is opening an investigation into the deadly stampede that killed at least 45 people.

Six of the people who died at the religious festival were Americans.

Many people are blaming police for blocking off a crucial exit at the event last Friday.

Attendees say a big crowd tried to leave through a narrow exit and some people slipped, triggering the stampede.

The festival was a religious celebration in Israel with thousands of ultra-orthodox Jews in attendance.
