A family just doesn’t feel complete until it adds a furry four- legged friend.

To celebrate National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day, The Four‘s Monika Zachara takes us to to to meet with the organization’s devoted Executive Director, Scott MacKenzie, and talk about the admirable services they offer at the shelter.

Don’t be so quick to think you need to find a breeder. There are plenty of furry companions waiting to find a home. The shelter prides itself on being a no-kill facility, meaning that they keep their animals until they are adopted, no matter how long. MacKenzie proudly tells us, “we are totally invested in saving lives and finding loving homes for animals in need.”

The humane society primarily holds domesticated dogs and cats. All animals are spayed, neutered, microchipped and up to date on all their shots. There are so many wonderful services they offer here, including but not limited to fostering animals, adoption, licensing, and also provide you with the right resources if you need training, grooming, boarding and much more!

They are partnering with the Bissell Pet Foundation for the event to find pets their forever homes. Starting May 5th through the 9th, you will be able to adopt a fully vetted pet for only $25!

All the animals are up on the website so you can see which little fur baby you’d like to meet! In order to adopt you must have a pre-approved application.

To fill one out, or make an appointment, visit the Charlevoix Area Humane Society’s website .
