U.S. Attorney General Announces Investigation of Minneapolis Police Dept.
The federal government plans to do a major review of the Minneapolis police department in the wake of former officer Derek Chauvin’s conviction for George Floyd’s death.
The investigation will examine the police department’s policies, training, command structure and use of force.
The Minneapolis police chief said in a statement he welcomes the investigation and said he and the department will cooperate fully.
This comes as Derek Chauvin is being held at Minnesota’s only maximum security prison.
The prison says he’s being held in a cell by himself away from the other inmates for his safety.
Chauvin will stay there until his sentencing in eight weeks. He can appeal his conviction after that happens.
